Freight train bypass bridges near Sankt Poelten

Facts and Figures:

Completion: 2004
Project type: Engineered bridge (Arch bridge)
Client: ARGE Knoten Wagram/HL-AG

Description:

Following the expansion of the Westbahn (Austrian Western Railway) to a high capacity railway line, a new high-speed section emerged east of St. Poelten, also referred to as freight train bypass. In order to reconnect three national roads, three identical arched bridges were built spanning across the high-speed railway tracks. The bridges are 3-section support structures with span lengths of 113m and 95m, respectively. The deck panel is a slim reinforced concrete structure. The 72.75m overarching steel arch carries the transoms, via hanger pairs spaced 4.85 m apart, in connection with the deck. The arches are inclined by 15 degrees against vertical.
