Description:

In autumn 2014, construction of the bridge de la Geôle (Pont de la Geôle) was successfully completed. The bridge is located in Saint Louis, in northern Senegal. It is the first of a series of modern and robust modular steel bridges to be installed in Senegal. All bridges are supplied by Waagner Biro and successively built under the supervision of its bridge experts. The bridges are all destined for high traffic routes and key locations. Waagner-Biro thus makes a significant contribution to the revitalization of the road network of the economically emerging Senegal.

Built within four months, the Pont de la Geôle now connects the city centre of Saint Louis, a former colonial capital, with an inhabited island just off the coast. The bridge is 135m long and accommodates two lanes and two external walkways. It consists of three spans of 45m each.

The next bridge was built in the city of Kedougou (70m). In 2018, Waagner-Biro finished building two more modular steel bridges, one at Windou Bosséabé (150m), the other at Ganguel Souley (160m).
